A Virginia man was busted Friday for swiping a gun from a car and peddling it for a measly $100 profit to Mohamed Jalloh — who then used it in the Old Dominion University terror shooting, authorities said.

And this is one (of many) reasons why gun-control laws don't work. This murderer didn't buy his gun from a licensed firearms dealer. He bought a stolen gun on the black market which, by definition, is not going to obey any laws.

Gun control laws prevent law-abiding citizens (including, possibly the instructor and students in the ROTC class where the shooting occurred) from having the means to shoot back. Fortunately, some of the students had the ability to defend themselves with bare hands and a knife, preventing this from turning into a mass-killing, but it shouldn't have had to come to that.

The non-profit Native American Guardians Association (NAGA) has threatened the newly renamed "Washington Commanders" with a boycott similar to that of Bud Light's parent company Anheuser-Busch unless the American Football team reverts to its historic name, the 'Washington Redskins.'

The organization has written a letter to the team's new ownership demanding the opportunity to discuss reinstating the team's name in a face-to-face meeting, citing lawsuits, polls, and general sentiment to suggest that Native Americans are not offended by the name, 'Redskin.' The organization has also launched a "Reclaim The Name" online petition that has attracted over 70,000 signatories so far. However, it has been routinely ignored.

I don't think I need to comment about this one. But I'm both laughing and not (very) surprised.

Those two facts continue to be obscured from our policy debate over containing the virus in the southern states. The governors of California, Arizona, and Texas refuse to recognize that the mild nature of these cases is good news going forward, and they continue to ignore the threat of serious cases from the border.

This is great news. What we are seeing (outside of the New York metropolitan area) is exactly what we were hoping for. A flattened curve where the hospitals are able to handle the severe cases and everybody else is able to recover on their own. Most of the rest you're hearing in the news is just political grandstanding for the November election and has nothing at all to do with public safety.

Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s March 25 order requiring nursing homes and other long-term care facilities to accept recovering coronavirus patients has disappeared from the New York State Department of Health’s website.

The webpage for Cuomo’s order says the document is “not found,” though it can still be seen on the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine. It took the governor roughly six weeks to reverse the order, which has been blamed for the high death rate among New York’s elderly.

The order’s disappearance, which was first reported by Fox News on Tuesday, comes as Cuomo has faced increasing levels of criticism for his handling of coronavirus. A Cuomo spokesperson told Fox News the order’s disappearance was part of a routine website update.

Revisionist history all the way down. Make a horrible decision that kills thousands of people. Then blame other people. Then delete the evidence.

Next up, we should expect Democrats to deny that the order ever existed and accuse the rest of us of making it up.

Too bad all those nursing home administrators have signed paper copies of their orders. It won't be nearly as easy to delete all of them.

YouTube is deleting comments that contain two terms Chinese dissidents use to criticize the government, raising concerns about the tech industry's willingness to censor content to gain favor with the communist regime.

Comments on YouTube videos containing the terms 共匪 (Gòngfěi), meaning "communist bandit," and 五毛党 (wǔmáodǎng), meaning "fifty-cent party," are automatically deleted from the site shortly after they are posted. The latter is a derogatory term referring to Chinese internet censors who are allegedly paid 50 cents for every internet post that they erase.

A YouTube spokeswoman acknowledged to the Washington Free Beacon that the website's algorithm has been deleting any comments containing either of the two terms within seconds of their submission. She blamed "an error in our enforcement mechanism" for the deletions, rather than an effort to stymie criticism of the authoritarian government. The deletions have raised eyebrows among Republican lawmakers, one of whom is calling on the Department of Justice to investigate.

Does this come as a surprise to anyone?

And now Flynn needs to sue everybody involved in this bogus prosecution. We now know that not only is there no evidence of any crime, there never was any evidence and the FBI knew it from day one. We also know that the FBI agents investigating the case wanted to drop it right from the start, but they were pressured by their politically-appointed bosses to try and invent a crime. We even have a hand-written memo stating that the interview at which Flynn supposedly lied was conducted for the express purpose of trying to trip him up in order to create an excuse for a prosecution. And even then, the agents conducting the interview said that Flynn didn't lie - an opinion that was only changed several months later when the top brass was demanding an excuse for a prosecution.

The people responsible for this need to lose their jobs and their pensions. They need to reimburse Flynn for the millions of dollars he spent defending himself against these bogus charges, plus punitive damages to make sure nobody ever tries a stunt like this again.

And no, I don't care that he plead guilty in 2017. He went bankrupt paying lawyers and the government had started threatening his family. I guarantee that you (whoever you are) would have confessed under far less pressure. A confession given under duress is no confession under any concept of justice.

A scan of statements made by media, state governors, local leaders, county judges, and more show many relying on the same source, an online mapping tool called COVID Act Now. The website says it is “built to enable political leaders to quickly make decisions in their Coronavirus response informed by best available data and modeling.”

An interactive map provides users a catastrophic forecast for each state, should they wait to implement COVID Act Now’s suggested strict measures to “flatten the curve.” But a closer look at how many of COVID Act Now’s predictions have already fallen short, and how they became a ubiquitous resource across the country overnight, suggests something more sinister.

Just like global warming ('scuze me, climate change) alarmism is based on inaccurate facts and bogus simulations, so is this. Only this time their exaggerations are intended to convince the country to impose martial law, nationalize all businesses and put the entire population on welfare.

Stalin himself, couldn't want more.

While emphasizing that her client wouldn’t dismiss the idea of accepting a pardon, Powell made clear that she and Flynn have set their sights higher.

A federal court in Boston on Tuesday ruled that suspicion-free, warrantless searches of travelers’ electronic devices at US border entry points are unconstitutional.

Great news. While most people would agree that Customs has the right to search baggage in order to make sure no prohibited items are being brought into the country, there is no law (as far as I know) prohibiting the importation of data of any kind, which pretty much clobbers any alleged "right" they may have for searching the content of electronic devices.

Of course, if some other law enforcement agency presents them with a warrant, that's a different story.

Yes, I know you can't import child pornography. But that's a law enforcement issue in general, not a Customs issue. Just like police and FBI can't search your computer without a warrant, neither should Customs be allowed to. And that's just what the court ruled.

Detective Michael Fields of the Orlando Police Department in Florida ... successfully used GEDmatch to identify a suspect in the 2001 murder of a 25-year-old woman that he’d spent six years trying to solve. So, because Fields didn’t want to stop using DNA records – he was searching for suspects in the case of a serial rapist who attacked a number of women decades ago – he took his disappointment to the court.

As Fields reportedly announced at a police convention last week, he won what he was after: a warrant to search GEDmatch’s full database. As the Times reports, he’s now working with the forensic consulting firm Parabon to try to find a DNA match that will lead him to that rapist.

Legal experts told the Times that overriding a site’s policies in this way is a “huge game changer” for genetic privacy. The newspaper quoted Erin Murphy, a law professor at New York University:

The company made a decision to keep law enforcement out, and that’s been overridden by a court. It’s a signal that no genetic information can be safe.

I've been telling friends and relatives for years that submitting DNA samples to geneology databases is risky, and now we're seeing why. Courts are now deciding that law enforcement should have complete access to the databases. This sets a precedent that will, in short order, be used to justify use and abuse of this data by every law enforcement employee, government agency and elected official that asks for it.

California Governor Gavin Newsom (D., Calif.) will on Wednesday announce a moratorium on his state's death penalty, placing an indefinite pause on executions on the largest death row in the United States.

... "The intentional killing of another person is wrong. And as governor, I will not oversee the execution of any individual," Newsom is expected to say.

... In 2016, California voters approved a ballot measure to fix the state's death penalty system, limiting the length of death penalty appeals to five years after conviction. That same year, they voted by a wider margin against a ballot measure to abolish the death penalty in the state altogether. Newsom's moratorium will therefore fly in the face of the most recent expression of the views of the people of California.

Come and see the Democrats' total lack of principles. In addition to flat-out defying the wishes of his constituency, Newsom shows a total disregard for humanity.

He says that it is wrong to kill another person. But he clearly doesn't believe what he said.

He and his party have no problem killing the unborn (abortion), the just-born (late-term abortions and children who survive botched abortions), the elderly and the terminally ill (demanding only palliative care and by supporting assisted suicide).

It would seem that the only class of person Newsom and the Democrats don't want to see killed are convicted serial killers.

There's an old saying: If you are kind to the cruel, then you are being cruel to the kind. And Mr. Newsom is a perfect example.

In November, a Huawei engineer heading up smartwatch development tracked down a supplier that helps build the Apple Watch's heart rate sensor, The Information said. The person arranged a meeting with the claim he could offer a manufacturing contract, but instead probed for details about the Apple Watch, an anonymous executive at the supplier said.

The engineer was accompanied by four researchers, and together the group is said to have spent an hour and a half asking about the Watch. With nothing given Huawei went silent.

Huawei has reportedly used similar tactics against companies like Cisco, Motorola, and Akhan Semiconductor. The U.S. Justice Department in fact claims that Huawei has a program that rewards employees for stealing data, with better bonuses based on how confidential information is.

This should come as no surprise, given the fact that the Chinese government has been stealing military and technology secrets for decades. And an important reason why nobody should buy Huawei equipment. Getting something for a low price should not be enough justification to reward theft.
